New and Improved Luminaire Tags...Part 1 & 2

Although we have always provided you with industry-leading automation like that in the automated luminare tags and luminaire schedule, We at DraftLogic have always wanted to give you more control over the luminaire tagging and also to make even 'smarter' placements. With today's release of DraftLogic Electrical, that is all coming to life.

NEW PARAMETERS FOR LUMINAIRE TAG CONTROL

See the attached picture of the Project Library's Lighting parameters for the method you will use to control the results of the new automated luminaire tags. The five luminaire tag parameters are at the bottom of the list of lighting parameters.

The new luminaire tags can be placed in several density levels and with a buffer, scale, and maximum service distance that you choose. The 'Luminaire Tag Mode' is the density level that tags will be placed at. You can select from: One-to-One, Dense, Thin, and One per Room. You dictate the buffer distance that the luminaire tags will look to stay away from anything in their collision group (i.e. other lighting related plot items). The 'Luminaire Tag Maximum Distance' is the furthest that a tag can be from a luminaire and still be considered as 'servicing' it for the Dense & Thin tag modes. As per most of the other distance related project parameters, the buffer and maximum distance are input in inches. The 'Luminaire Tag Scale' is a value from .1 to 10 where '1' means the tags are placed at the same scale as the luminaires. Smaller values (i.e. below 1) will result in tags that are smaller relative to the luminaires, and larger values mean the reverse. Lastly, 'Luminaire Tags Avoid XREF Entities' is a yes/no value to tell DraftLogic Electrical whether it should attempt to avoid collision with xref'd entities or not. Typically, the architect source is your xref.

The buffer value is critical to both the speed of execution and the quality of results. The higher the buffer value, the more work that DraftLogic Electrical will have to do and the further that DraftLogic Electrical will need to 'reach' to find a suitable location to place a luminaire tag. We have found that a buffer of 8" or less allows for fast processing, try this out & increase it incrementally as needed for plot legibility. The lower the buffer you are comfortable with, the better the luminaire tags will fit into tbar cells and the faster the tool will be able to run.

IMPLEMENTED THROUGHOUT DRAFTLOGIC ELECTRICAL

The new luminaire tag automation placement is in place everywhere that luminaire tags are automatically placed, including: during automated placement, when using any tool off the Command tool palette in the System Placement tool group that mentions luminaire tags, and when using the Luminaire and Foot-Candle Adjustment dialog. There are now tools in the System Placement tool group of the Command tool palette for each of: automated switches (add only switches to a room), automated switches and tags (add both switches and luminaire tags to a room), and automated tags (add only luminaire tags to a room, the whole project, or to selected fixtures).

All methods of executing automated luminaire tag placement are controlled by the five luminaire tag parameters at the bottom of the list of lighting parameters in the Project Library. This includes luminaire tagging methods where you select to specify fixtures for tagging rather than rooms, so if you select by fixture and expect to see one tag for each please be aware that even 'by fixture' selection will be using your settings from the Project Library--none of the tagging methods default to any particular density and other settings, they all use the parameter settings.

PART 2

The June 2012 release of DraftLogic Electrical includes further improved luminaire tag automated placement with three enhancements versus the earlier version: faster execution, specific handling for centering in tbar cells, and some further enhancements throughout.

FUTURE ENHANCEMENTS

At some point in the future, we desire to release the luminaire tag automated placement with three enhancements versus today's version: even faster execution, better logic for maximizing the number of best location placements versus secondary placements, and last but not least, some enhancements based on your feedback.
