The categories that luminaires are classified in are very customizable. The requirement to manage the categories is rare, though, so we have assigned a low priority to building dialogs for luminaire category management.
For those who desire to make any changes to the luminaire categories, everything can be done in the database today. There are only four tables that you need to know about, all of which are structurally simple. So not a difficult undertaking!
What does luminaire category management mean, i.e. what can you do in regards to luminaire categories?
Here is everything that is under your control through simple database modifications, i.e. no code to change:
1. Change any category's name
2. Change the order that the categories appear in--this affects the Luminaire Library and all other places where luminaire categories are listed, like the Room Library and the Attribute Editor when you are selecting a particular luminaire type code for a luminaire in AutoCAD model space.
3. Add categories--take care not to add too many, as the category list is already about as long as is desired for a list for users to be choosing from
4. Remove categories--take care to move any existing luminaires out of a 'to be deleted' category and into a 'keeper' category before you perform the deletion.
These operations are all done in the DraftLogic..EL_LT_FIXTURE_CATEGORY database table. Use Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express or a similar tool to log into the DraftLogic databases and 'Open' the DraftLogic..EL_LT_FIXTURE_CATEGORY database table. We recommend right-clicking your DraftLogic database and performing a backup prior to making any modifications to the database.
There are five columns in the DraftLogic..EL_LT_FIXTURE_CATEGORY database table:
FIXTURE_CATEGORY_ID: automatically generated unique ID for each fixture category record. SQL takes care of this one for you by generating unique integers automatically for each new row you add, just start typing in the other fields and ignore this one, an ID will be assigned as soon as you complete the fields for a new row and click out of it.
FIXTURE_CATEGORY_DESC: the name of the category, this is what all the users at your site will see in the various places that the luminaire categories are used. Keep the length as short as reasonably feasible, best to stay at same length or shorter versus the existing category names. SQL may limit the length of name you are allowed to use, you'll get an error about the size if you try and click or tab out of this field leaving too long of a name.
MOUNTING_TYPE_ID: a reference to an ID from the DraftLogic..EL_LT_MOUNTING_TYPE table, which you can also make changes to. This reference is currently unused by the rest of DraftLogic Electrical but should be maintained as it is quite possible to be used in the future. Select an integer value that exists in the EL_LT_MOUNTING_TYPE table to use here.
FIXTURE_GROUP_ID: a reference to an ID from the DraftLogic..EL_LT_FIXTURE_GROUP table, which you can also make changes to. This reference is currently unused by the rest of DraftLogic Electrical but should be maintained as it is quite possible to be used in the future. Select an integer value that exists in the EL_LT_FIXTURE_GROUP table to use here.
SEQ_NBR: the sequence that the categories show up in the various places that the luminaire categories are used. Take care to not duplicate any numbers and to ensure that each category is assigned a number. Select a unique positive integer value to use here to reflect the order you want the category listed in.
If you make changes to and of the above three mentioned tables and the Luminaire Library refuses to open or opens with undesirable appearance/results, it means you have inadvertently entered unacceptable data that the Luminaire Library dialog is unable to understand. Carefully review your changes to ensure that only valid data types and lengths have been entered and that you have not created any duplicates or other types of conflicts.
